Safety Officer
SAFETY MESSAGE
Safety is a very important thing for all of us, we all want to go out and ride our bikes, take trips, go to events, and enjoy the ride. There is nothing worse than having an accident or a bike breaking down, it really messes up everyone's day. That is why safety is for all of us. We need to follow the state traffic laws, and the rules of the club. You need to make sure the maintenance is on your bike is up to date, check your tire pressure, fix those loose bolts, screws, and straps.
Watch each rider in the group, is someone falling asleep, exhausted, dehydrated or having problems. If so let someone know we need to pull over. The lead person can not always see what is taking place behind them. If you feel you need to drop out of the group then pull to the side of the road. It is the job of the tail gunner to stop with you and see what is wrong. If you are departing the group with no problems wave bye to the group so the tail gunner will not drop out with you. Never leave a fellow biker in the group stranded by themselves.
Learn and use the hand signals, and pass the signals back to the next person so everyone gets the message. When the lead rider turns his signal on to change lanes turn your signal on and wait. The tail gunner may be trying to capture the lane behind everyone. Once he captures the lane then everyone can change lanes safely. If the lead rider changes lane look first to see if the tail gunner has already switched lanes then move into that lane.
DO NOT Block lanes or intersections with a parked or non moving bike. You can pull into a lane and slow traffic down if you can do it safely while other bikes pull out into traffic. Blocking traffic can result is you being issued a citation, by law enforcement, or get you and other people killed or injured when the on coming traffic don't stop.
Keep Safe,
